My latest tarot acquisition is the so-called Weiser White Box A Edition of the Crowley-Harris Thoth deck from 1969. This is my fourth in the series of Thoth decks, the first one being the "Large Swiss Blue Box A" (AGM, 1986), the second being the "Green Box" edition by USG (post-1986), and the third one being the "White Box C 4-language edition" (also by USG, ca. 1986). The Tarot Garden has a wonderful Edition Comparison Table, which shows spesific details of the different versions. This 1969 edition has card borders lacking the line pattern ornament commonly found in contemporary editions of the Thoth deck. Colours are also much more blurred due to older printing technique (age probably has also to do with it), resulting in lower contrast scale. For some reason I find this "vintage" edition much more appealing than those brighter, newer ones.
I think my Thoth collection is now complete. Naah, I know myself better.. there’ll always be new treasures out there waiting.. and how could I resist?
White slipcase with gold coloured sleeve… Nice.
The Fool, as usual.
The Wheel from the Green Box edition compared with the Wheel from the White Box A edition..
..and the Wheel from the White Box A edit. compared with the Wheel from the 4-language edit.!
